Passion. Art. Science. Writing is all about this and much more. Writing something, especially if you’re writing a blog and posting this for people; either to educate or inform, is an art and science coupled with passion. Come to think of it, without passion, you’re article’s dead. Just the same, without art and a grasp of the science of writing, you’re blog and its content ends up the same – dead. Writing is a skill that needs to be honed and developed.

To captivate and inspire readers is the ultimate quest of writers. What better way to do this than to plan and prepare for your write up. By preparing and planning we mean organizing your words and your style of writing for readers to better appreciate your work. This also helps the writer organize his thoughts of the subject he is writing and helps would-be readers grasp the raison principale or main notion of the content that you would be posting. Arranging and structuring your post means providing appealing headings, supplying subheadings and proper paragraphs. A well-thought, well organized post will make people appreciate your work, and if they do so, will likely share, like, follow, link and tweet your post. Penultimate to this, your web’s and that of your clients web’s ranking will also increase. So to increase and improve your rankings to search engines – particularly on Google – you, as a writer, must upped your writing skills and develop the art and science of writing.

To write what? The Writer’s Dilemma

Blog writers singularly face one common dilemma. How to come up with a good content for their blog? It’s not just about coming up with ideas which to write, it also entails writing something in such a way as for targeted readers to make a connection with the content of what you’re writing about.

Lest we forget, passionately write something that is awe-inspiring. Majority of blog writers just begin to write something when they are creating content. These writers just write whichever comes to their minds. For a few writers, this may be sufficient, especially for gifted writers; those with innate talent to write. For some, they need help to come up with something. Here’s some of the help we would like to give:

1. Think what you would write beforehand.

What is your subject? What thought or idea do you want to convey to your target readers? Message forms an integral part of writing. Without a clear and concise message, your content would just be plain gibberish. Think about the action you want your readers to do. How do you want them to act after reading your post? These are some critical questions you need to write down and guide you in your writing.

2. Outline the structure of your post.

Build your composition with a clear-cut structure. Make an outline of your content. The content of your post should always begin with an introduction which will capture the attention of your readers. Next, outline your content’s body. This is where you will read the jest of what you are writing. Finally, outline your content’s summary or conclusion. The summary contains the most important ideas you have presented in your content. This part may also contain new ideas you have presented early on and the crux of the piece you have written.

3. Employ paragraphs in your content.

Merely using paragraphs in your content is fairly easy. Almost anyone makes use of and employs paragraphs, but the trick is to use paragraphs that actually make sense or literally understandable to readers. It isn’t wise to begin writing a new sentence just for the fun of writing a new one. You must understand that paragraphs exist and are made because a reason exists to make one. Each paragraph that you would make must contain a main idea or subject. For every paragraph you plan to make, ask yourself what that main idea is or what subject you would write about. 5. Employ signal words in your content.

For you to lead your readers to the direction you want them to go, you should employ and use signal words. For example you are writing about how to use something or what to content, you can use sequence signals. These type of signal words gives an order to ideas or instructions like the words “before”, “now”, “after” or the signal words “while”, “during”, “after”. The use of the signal words “in summary”, “hence”, “last of al” and “therefore” would tell your readers that you are concluding your content. Because of this signal words play a crucial role in the structure of the texts in your content.

6. Use graphics, infographics and visual arts.

Punctuate your text with visuals. Graphics tends to attract your readers to continue reading. Infographics simplifies your text and makes it more palatable and easy to understand. Complex words and text sometimes muddles the understanding of readers. To better illustrate such complex ideas, use infographics.

7. Boost your content’s length.

Boosting means you should optimize the extent or the number of words of your content. The minimum length of your post should be 300 words. While search engines – particularly Google – love long contents, however too long content may turn your readers away. So to be appreciated by Google and be liked by your readers, you can use up to 700 words. In terms of SEO-friendliness, the general rule is to include your keywords in about 1% or 2% of your content. This means in a write-up that contains 300 words, you ought to include or mention your keywords three (3) to six (6) times.

8. Internally link your content to previous contents.

If you already wrote a content similar to or alluding to the subject of your present post, don’t fail to link to your past posts with your present. By linking your new post with that of the previous people – your readers – will find that you know what you are talking about and that you have a good grasp of the subject. Link-structure and link building is also an important step to increase your rankings on Google’s SERPs so you also need to use this on your writing.

9. Before posting, allow others to see and read your post.

By doing so, Google and search engines crawls your site and indexing it frequently thus making it appear on search queries by online searchers where it is relevant. On the other hand, if you don’t have activities or if you don’t frequently post then search engines would tend to crawl your site less frequently and it would affect your rankings. When this happens, people searching would see you lesser and lesser until you fade into obscurity.

In Hindsight

With content being the king in the digital era some Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques being employed before to gain high rankings in the search engine results pages (SERPs) of search engines; more importantly in Google, may not be enough if not outright obsolete.

Innovations in search algorithms by search engines have made them more and more intelligent thus good quality content affords websites the highest probability of high rankings in Google and other search engines. An added benefit for good quality content is that it gets mentioned more, shared repeatedly, liked by many, gets tweeted often and gets websites visited repeatedly.
